The Regions of Spain

As in every country, there are different ways to view the regions. The official way, is via the Communities.

Spain is divided up into a number of autonomous communities (see the map of Spain on the right), each with its own regional assembly, giving each one a certain amount of independence from the central government in Madrid. The amount of independence gives cause to many political arguments.

An alternative view might be to consider the regions by their commercial activities. The two powerhouses are Madrid, and Barcelona. Barcelona tends to attract the more 'arty' types of business. The north and west of Spain are wet, by comparison, so this differentiates it from the central areas, which tend to be drier and flatter. And of course, the coasts, or costas, attract holidaymakers.

Look what we have found!

Have a look at these sites about Spain that we have recently come across. Firstly, there's "Buscoafiliados Blog", which we have entered into our Employment in Spain section. Located in Benalmadena

Then, there is "Strikland Party Band", which we have entered into our Music and Entertainment in Spain section. Strikland is an amazing funk/soul/rock band that plays well-known music that's ideal for dancing, ranging from the O'Jays to the Zutons and everything in between. It's all performed totally live and in their unique style - with energy, passion and a desire to give the audience a great night out. The location is Javea (Xabia)

Finally, take a look at "Shade sails and Life style products", which we have entered into our Home and Garden in Spain section. Tip Top Spain sl is an exclusive distributor of SunSquare (R) shade sail systems.
They deliver all kind of shade solutions. Find them in Marbella

Monday, 8th December, 2008 - Imaculada Concepción - The patron saint of Spain, the Immaculate Conception, is celebrated in this national holiday.

Thursday, 25th December, 2008 - Christmas day - National holiday across Spain - but don't forget that the celebrations continue until January 6th. In some countries, gifts are exchanged on Christmas Eve, or on Christmas Day, but in Spain, the gifts are kept back for the more logical date of the 6th of January, when gifts were given to the holy child. Boxing Day is not celebrated in Spain.

Sunday, 28th December, 2008 - Dia de Los Inocentes - This day remembers the day that the young children were murdered in Bethlehem in an attempt to catch the Christ child. It may seem a little bizarre celebrating this event in such a way, but on this day, jokes are played on the "innocents" - the same things that happens on April 1st in so many countries. And it's also an excuse (!) for more ferias.
